Plenty of people are experiencing strong allergies this spring season because the early warmer weather brought tree pollen out sooner – and with more intensity – than normal, said Peter Baum, allergist and immunologist with the DeKalb Clinic.

Do You Need To Know The Importance Of An Asthma Drug?

People who are suffering from asthma are relying not only from alternative asthma treatment therapy, but also on approved drugs by the Food & Drug Administration of USA (FDA).

Asthma drugs are used in the U. S. by approximately 10% of the population who suffer with this illness. Internationally, as well in the industrialized countries, an approximate 10% are registered to suffer and use an asthma drug.

What is asthma?

Hyperactive airway disease is known as asthma; it is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways. This inflammation causes recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing mostly at night or early in the morning.

Asthma symptoms patterns can vary as follows:

* perennial versus seasonal
* continual versus episodic
* duration, severity and frequency

Aggravating factors:

* allergens
* occupation
* medications
* exercise

Treatment and an asthma drug

Medications used for asthma are usually divided into two categories: quick relief and long term control.

A quick relief asthma drug is used to treat acute attacks where as long-term asthma drug is used in a step by step plan out lined by the doctor. The newest asthma drug is omalizumab or xolair.

This drug reduces mediator release which in turn promotes an allergic response. This asthma drug is recommended for moderate to severe asthma patients.

There are a number of asthma medications on the market for each case type. An asthma drug just like any other medication should not be taken without the supervision of a qualified doctor.

Most asthma medications work by relaxing bronchospasm or reducing inflammation. When treating asthma usually inhaled medication is preferred over the tablet or a liquid asthma drug.

Inhaled medications act directly in the airway surface and muscle where the problems initiate. In old days adrenaline was used as an asthma drug; adrenaline worked as a rapid onset in opening airways unfortunately, adrenaline has many other serious side effects.

Asthma myths

* Asthma is all in the mind.
* Asthma can be cured and therefore not serious.
* Asthma is contagious.
* Moving to a desert will cure asthma
* People with asthma should nit exercise.
* Asthma drug is habit forming
* Asthma does not require medical treatment

While all of the above all false asthma still remains a fact which is painfully present in our lives creating more and more victims everyday. Asthma is a serious illness which needs constant care and supervision at all times. While medications can suppress it asthma given at the right time asthma itself has no cure, it is a disease one has to live with for the rest of their life.

Therefore it is important to know that asthma treatment with or without drugs will either give you more problems or more solutions to your life. Be the well-informed one, not the ignorant one.

Who Else Wants To Know The 3 Effective Types Of Asthma Medicine

Many asthmatics once they are being diagnosed with asthma by their doctors, they will evaluate the severity of your asthma and determine what type of asthma medication will work best for you.

While there are literally hundreds of different drugs that can be used to treat asthma, essentially there are two different categories of medicine that can be prescribed: controller medicines and quick-relief medicines.

1) Controller Medicine

This type of asthma medicine will aid in controlling the inflammation in the lungs which will allow for easier breathing and less attacks. Some known controller medicines are Vanceril, Tilade, Intal, AeroBid and Accolate. This type of asthma medicine is usually prescribed in the form of an inhalant or a pill. If you experience frequent asthma attacks, or cough uncontrollably, your doctor will probably instruct you to take this kind of asthma medicine every day.

2) Quick-Relief Medicine

While this type of asthma medicine can be quite effective, it is normally not safe for daily use. Its use is intended to control an active asthma attack, or prevent an attack once symptoms have become apparent. This type of asthma medicine is also sometimes referred to as a “rescue medicine. ” Some of the known quick-relief medicines are Albuterol, Atrovent and Prednisone. This type of asthma medicine can be prescribed as a liquid, a pill and as an inhalant.

3) Other Asthma Medicine

There is also another group of medicines that are used to treat asthma. This type of asthma medicine is known as a combination medicine. Combination medicines contain both a controller medicine and a quick-relief medicine in the same inhaler. In the recent past, an inhaler has been approved that lets the user adjust the amount of medication that is being administered so it can be changed according to a person’s condition.

Common Side Effects of Asthma Medicine

All medicines have the ability to cause side effects, and an asthma medicine is no exception. While most people are able to receive asthma treatment free of unwanted side effects, there have been some side effects reported by those using an asthma medicine.

Some of the common side effects reported are headache, voice changes, sore throat, swollen glands in the neck, runny nose, hoarseness and congestion. If you experience side effects as the result of taking an asthma medicine, be sure to inform your doctor at once.

With the help of an asthma medicine, many asthma sufferers are able to lead full, active lives that are productive. While not all sufferers will experience the same level of control over their asthma, using an asthma medicine can greatly improve their quality of life.

At those times, your asthma medication will be very important to you. You won’t want to leave your home once you have your asthma medication without it. Don’t suffer anymore and make sure you get the asthma medication that you need as soon as possible!

Remember, you are not destiny to suffer from this dreadful disease as most asthma medication can free yourself from asthma attacks thus saving your life. However. you should never add to, or alter any component of your current asthma treatment without first consulting your physician.

However, many asthmatics sometimes tend to forget that although they are taking proper and effective asthma medications, but without a proper asthma recovery system, there will not be much asthma free lifestyle to hope no matter how much knowledge you have with regards to the medications.

Apply this knowledge in your medication together with an effective asthma recovery system – enjoy your life once again.

Know More About Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is often also called nasal allergy, pollinosis or hay fever, especially when it occurs during the haying season.
Allergic rhinitis is the occurrence of several symptoms, usually in the eyes and in the nose, after exposure to particles that may be airborne like plant pollens, dander and most especially, dust.
An oversensitive immune system is usually cited for the occurrence of allergic rhinitis. Take note that the immune system is your shield against harmful and ailment-causing viruses and bacteria. In some people, immune systems react violently to substances or allergens that are not generally harmful or disease-causing.
The most common and primary cause of allergic rhinitis is allergy to pollen. Pollens are very fine and powder-like substances produced by seed plants’ anthers. Allergic rhinitis can be similar to allergic reactions exhibited in some people by allergies to animal dander, inhaled allergens, mold and dust.
Some of the plants that usually produce pollens that cause reported cases of allergic rhinitis are deciduous and evergreen trees, flowering plants, ragweed and grasses.
Identifying allergic rhinitis
The most common manifestations or symptoms of allergic rhinitis are:
o Nasal congestion or what you call stuffy nose
o Wheezing
o Sore throat
o Sneezing
o Teary eyes
o Runny nose
o Smell impairment
o Headache
o Coughing
o Itching in the mouth, throat, nose, eyes, skin or any other areas in the body
How to treat allergic rhinitis
Remember, most allergies are treatable but not curable. Allergic rhinitis is not an exception.
Treatments or medications available or prescribed for allergic rhinitis only reduce symptoms of allergy caused by inflammation in the infected or affected tissues.
Doctors advise that the best treatment would be prevention, but if you happen to already have it, several medications may be of help.
Antihistamines are usually over-the-counter or do not require prescriptions when you buy them in drugstores. Such medicines, however, are only recommended to relieve mild symptoms or moderate symptoms. Take note that antihistamines may cause drowsiness and should not be taken when driving.
There are antihistamines that are specifically described longer-acting. Included in this category are cetirizine and fexofenadine. These types of antihistamines will unlikely cause drowsiness.
Nasal sprays are the most common form of medications taken for allergic rhinitis. They are safe and effective especially for patients whose symptoms are not reduced by antihistamines.
Decongestants are not exclusive for cough. They can also be used to treat allergic rhinitis.
In taking medications, it is important to first seek a doctor’s recommendation and prescription even if some medicines are non-prescription to ensure health and safety. Proper administration and timing is also important. No one wants to get an overdose right?
Preventing allergic rhinitis
Prevention is better than treatment, as always. To prevent the onset of allergic rhinitis, people with history should try to remain indoors or inside air-conditioned rooms especially during the pollination or hay season.
Remember that most pollinating trees produce and air-spread pollens during spring.
In the case of flowers and grasses, they pollinate during summer and ragweeds produce pollen in early autumn.
Bear in mind these trivial but interesting facts so you would know how to prevent getting another allergic rhinitis episode. It could not be that deadly, but it would really feel uncomfortable. One more thing, who says complications do not kill?
