What Foods Should I Avoid With My Corn Allergy?

I have been having allergies to corn and tested positive on my allergy test. I also tested positive for grass. I am now having allergy symptoms when I eat oat meal and any other products that contain oats.
What other foods may be related to corn? I already have a 4 page list of corn and corn byproducts so I am looking for other foods in the corn/grass family.
Thanks for your help!

Better Living With Asthma

Asthma is a highly ranked chronic health condition in adults in most western countries, and it is the leading chronic illness of children.

Asthma cannot be cured, but for most patients it can be controlled so that they have only minimal and infrequent symptoms and they can live an active life.

If you have asthma, managing it is an important part of your life. Controlling your asthma means staying away from things that bother your airways and taking medicines as directed by your doctor. If you have asthma, it is important to learn how to take care of yourself.

It is important that you work with your doctor to make an action plan that you are both happy with. As part of this, you will need to:

* Tell your doctor about all other medications and drugs you are taking, in case one of them affects your asthma.

* Follow your asthma action plan and have regular checkups.

* Learn to use your medication correctly. Ask your doctor to teach you how to use your inhaler. This is very important. If inhalers are not used correctly, less medication gets into the airways.

* If you are having problems taking your asthma medicine, seek your doctor’s advice immediately.

You also need to learn to identify and avoid the things that can worsen or trigger your asthma symptoms. These include :

* If animal dander is a problem for you, keep your pet out of the house and/or at least out of your bedroom and wash your pet often, or find it a new home.

* Do not smoke or allow smoking in your home.

* If pollen is a problem for you, stay indoors with the air conditioner on when the pollen count is high.

* To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys once a week in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows.

* To prevent colds and flu, wash your hands often and get a flu shot every year. Children with asthma should get flu shots, too.

* If cold air bothers you, wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in the winter.

* If you get asthma when you exercise or do routine physical activities like climbing stairs, work with your doctor to find ways to be active without having asthma symptoms. Physical activity is important.

* If you are allergic to sulphites, avoid foods (like dried fruit) or beverages (like wine) that contain them. For example, sodium metabisulphite (E220-227) may also trigger asthma, but not via an allergic reaction. It can be found in wine, home-brewed beer, fizzy drinks, prepared meats and prepared salads.

* Do not allow smoking indoors unless there is a room reserved for smokers and which has a separate ventilation system to exhaust smoke outside. Never allow smoking around anyone with asthma.

* Try to keep humidity levels in the home between 30 and 50 percent. High humidity can promote growth of biological agents that may trigger asthma episodes. Use exhaust fans or open windows in the kitchen or bathroom areas when cooking, using the dishwasher, or taking showers. Make sure clothes dryers are vented to the outdoors, and use a dehumidifier in the basement if necessary.

* Avoid using humidifiers. If it cannot be avoided, clean it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Refill it daily with fresh water to prevent the growth of harmful microbes.

* Minimize exposure to combustion particles and gases that can cause breathing difficulties for people with asthma. Have combustion-powered furnaces, stoves, or heaters checked yearly to make sure they are operating properly. Change furnace filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions, or every month or two during periods of use. Consider installing higher efficiency filters to reduce the number of particles in the air. Never use a gas stove to heat the home, and always use the exhaust fan when cooking on a gas stove.

* Avoid sprays like deodorants, perfumes, or air fresheners, odours from paint, and strong smelling cleaners may start a child’s asthma attack.

* Keep the house clean to reduce allergens like microscopic dust mites, pollen, and animal dander. Use an allergen-proof comforter and encase mattresses and box springs in vinyl covers. Wash bedding frequently in hot (130°F) water. Avoid furnishings that collect dust. Try to eliminate cockroaches. Try to keep pets out of the bedrooms of family members with asthma. Consider using a high-efficiency vacuum filter or a vacuum system that is vented to the outside to clean the house. If possible remove the carpeting, drapes, and all upholstered furniture from the bedrooms of those suffering from asthma.

You need to be alert for warning signs of an asthma attack:

* Watch for symptoms (coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing) and use your medication as directed by your doctor.

* Use your peak flow meter as directed to monitor your asthma.

Finally, you should adopt a healthy lifestyle. While a healthy lifestyle may not keep you from having problems with allergies and asthma, being healthier in general can’t hurt. Eat a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low in fats and sugars, get enough rest, exercise regularly, try to find ways to manage stress in your life, and don’t smoke.

If your asthma is not under control, there will be signs that you should not ignore. The following are some signs that your asthma is getting worse:

* Your asthma symptoms happen more often.

* Your asthma symptoms are worse than they used to be.

* Your asthma symptoms are bothering you a lot at night and making you lose sleep.

* You are missing school or work because of your asthma.

* Your peak flow number is low or varies a lot from morning to evening.

* Your asthma medications do not seem to be working very well anymore.

* You have to use your short-acting “quick relief” or “rescue” inhaler more often. (Using quick relief medicine every day, or using more than one inhaler a month is too much)

* You have to go to the emergency room or doctor because of an asthma attack.

* You end up in the hospital because of your asthma.

If your asthma seems to be getting worse, see your doctor. You may need to change your medication or do other things to get your asthma under control.

Fixing Food Allergy With Psychology

Food allergy is one of the easiest conditions to cure when talking about psychological methods. However, it is recommended to use other methods that are widely available. It is because one treatment may be effective for one person but not to others. From the point of view of some psychologists, food allergy has something to do with emotional experiences or illnesses from years ago. However, most people are unconscious about it. Take for instance; when you were a child, you have developed headaches or nausea from bugs that you have picked up and have associated it with the food you have eaten recently. If you experience the same thing in the days to come, it could bring back the same emotional upset and symptoms of the disease. To eliminate food allergy in relation to psychological origins, you need to successfully send the message to your subconscious mind for breaking that association. You can get the help of a hypnotist or a knowledgeable friend about the process. You need to dig deeper to find out the origin of your food allergy. It is necessary to determine the first incident that connects food allergy into your life. Your subconscious state definitely know what had happened that time and for sure that would be likely traumatic. But you don’t need to be upset again, you were young before and as you are getting more mature, your way of thinking also changes. Take away all your negative emotions that you have felt before because of food allergy, and start to think recovery from that distressful situation. More often it can be caused by what somebody said (it can include your parent, doctor, teacher, or another child) or something you witnessed in connection with food allergy. Whatever it is, there is something that was imprinted subconsciously and still operates presently. Thus you don’t want to have such a condition. If you know the origin of food allergy, then it is easy to find the cure. Talking to the subconscious mind and letting it do what the therapist say needs a trigger and a command. Your therapist can tell it to disconnect all the things that are associated to your food allergy in all the levels of your subconscious mind so that the condition will never bother you again. A friend can do it for you. Take for instance; let your friend start the procedure by snapping his/her fingers or clapping his/her hands. You can close your eyes and begin to imagine eating the food that caused your food allergy. See how you feel. This may sound ridiculous for people who are not a therapist but can work for many sufferers of food allergy. Your subconscious mind is not considered a reasonable mind but a mind which follows order. Again try to imagine eating the foods you are allergic to, extend your imagination until the food allergy symptoms appear, and then observe your feelings. If you feel the symptoms, then it shows that it is in your mind. This procedure can be done repeatedly until the results become positive. This method provides no guarantees, however it can make a difference. Food allergies can be recurrent during an emotional upset. Just do the procedure all over again until your upsetting episode is over. Food allergies with psychological origin can be treated in this way. But still, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Cat Allergies and How to Deal With It

Cats are popular pets in the world, is not an issue. Over 50% of all households in the United States own dogs and cats. Although cats are loved animals, cat allergies are one of the most common forms of allergies. Statistics have previously shown that more than 10 million people in the U.S. alone have allergic reactions to cats – especially their fur. The most common cause of cat allergies is dander. Shed is a dust that is produced by the cat itself. Dandruff is basically shed skin that comes from cats, usually in small flakes. Although dander irritate the skin, it can also lead to the immune system also produces a variety of symptoms and almost immediate allergic reactions. Rid, once the immune system, are considered a threat. Although it is not classified as a disease, it is a reflection of your body and immune system. Cat allergies occur, often due to allergens in cats, the blood and urine will be shared and saliva. While the cat is not necessarily available at the time, probably even more droppings. Cat dander, urine and saliva, can be found throughout the apartment cat owners. Cats constantly groom themselves, rubbing, which affects the saliva into their fur. If they do, they spread their dander and allergens around. Even if you try, not really anything to do about it. Cats have a natural instinct to preserve or bath, give, no matter how many baths you give them, not simply to stop nursing. Usually, when someone having an allergic reaction to cats, she will wheeze, cough, sneeze, itching, watery eyes are, or a difficult time breathing. Different people react differently to cat allergens, meaning that some symptoms may be present at all. Fever and chills is very rare, but it can happen. If someone who has cat allergies comes with fever and chills, contact your doctor immediately. Chances are, it does not have an allergic reaction to cats, but with a different disease, who need a doctor to be identified. Cat allergies are usually treated with antihistamines and decongestants. Who experience an asthma attack or other allergies, antihistamines in general. Decongestants, on the other hand, are often used to improve the cough and swollen nose. Sometimes doctors also recommend allergy shots. Allergy files can help prevent an attack, especially if someone is really allergic to cats. They are a good form of treatment and prevention of, and may also help to reduce individual risk of allergies. If you suspect that you have a cat allergy, you should always go there to be a doctor. He is able to diagnose your situation and give you the best options for treatment. If you have not, in fact, suffer from cat allergies, the best way to stop the attacks to get rid of the cat. To get rid of a cat, a very difficult thing to do. If you are allergic to cat fur, there can be no other way to avoid going to attack him. Although doctors can give medication and shots, it's not so much. Cat allergens are no fun, especially if you develop them years after possession of the cat. Cats are great animals of their own – although cat allergies, all of us could not live without are.

The Major Causes Of Food Allergy – Fight The Allergies With These Tips

Allergy gets into a body when an immune system becomes suddenly abnormal to a specific material which is generally not detrimental to most of the individuals except the one who has the allergy. When this allergy is triggered by an allergen or substance, the body recognizes this as a trespasser and releases any sort of chemicals so that it fights the trespasser causing symptoms like irritation. Moreover this irritation could also be fatal leading to death.
Allergy caused by food is a reaction which is made by the immune system. In the immune system antibodies are produced because of negative effect to few foods. Even though there are a lot of people who say that they have the allergy, only few actually have this allergy causing reactions. Many individuals confuse food allergy and food intolerance. Intolerance to certain kinds of food doesn’t affect the immune system. But both food allergy and intolerance are sensitivity reaction to foods.
In today’s world the medical department hasn’t found any proper cure for allergies caused by food. The allergy management only cautions you of intake of the allergens in food and few diet modifications.
During the allergic reaction, Antibodies are released by the immune system, especially immunoglobulin E. It inevitably causes the production of histamine (chemical) in the way of guarding the body. The following chemicals are the main cause of symptoms that includes irritation in eyes, throat, skin, gastrointestinal organs and lungs. These things happen when one is exposed to allergen.
There are 8 major foods that are the main cause for the reaction (allergic). These eight allergy provoking foods are soy, wheat, fish, milk, eggs, tree nuts, shellfish and peanuts.
These cause severe damage to an individual’s body.
People afflicted with allergies react to only certain allergy causing foods. Cross reaction takes place when allergy to a kind of food causes (allergic) reaction to foods that are related to allergen food. For example, a reaction to wheat could cause a reaction to rye.
The Allergy in pollens could cause allergy to peaches, almonds, hazelnuts, green apples. Reaction to a goat’s milk could be cause an allergy to cow’s milk. So there are so many examples to show cross reaction.
If you accidentally ingested the food-containing allergen, it is very important that you should immediately take anti-histamine medications. This is why you have to take anti-histamine medication wherever you go in case you accidentally ate food that contains an ingredient that you are allergic from.
These are some of the common food allergens that you should know about in order to properly manage it and minimize the risk of future allergy attacks that can lead to severe discomfort and in severe cases, death.
Asthma or eczema patients could be at a risk of having food allergy. To add to this they might be having a severe reaction than the normal people who have only food allergy. This is because, when an allergy occurs, the concerned person is under stress which could lead to triggering their eczema or asthma aggravating the current situation. But the degree of this reaction depends upon circumstances like a person’s sensitivity threshold to allergen, exposure scale the individual has to the food and the quantity of eaten food.
Vigilance and self-discipline will help or guide a person who suffers from this allergy. There are no specific cures for the food allergy. However contacting your physician will serve you better responses. The physician will understand your problems and give you proper treatment.
